Welcome back to the blog and the next instalment of our #EightPreciousWeeks campaign!
It's safe to say that Precious, Onyx, Ruby, Sapphire, and Topaz are all thriving... as you'll see from some of the adorable photos we have for you this week!
Aren’t they beautiful? They’re getting stronger every week! They’re starting to crawl around and are becoming more curious about their surroundings. Their eyes are now wide open (if you remember from the previous blog posts, kittens are born blind so rely on mum for everything!), their ears have unfurled and are pointing up, and their fur is starting to grow too. It’s at this point where we’re starting to see their individual personalities shine through as well, so let us introduce you to them…
Topaz and Sapphire.... are the adventurous ones
Onyx.... is the sleepy one
Ruby... is the slightly shy one
Precious is doing brilliantly too. She is such a lovely, sweet, and gentle cat, and has taken to motherhood so well after her difficult start. As you can see from the photos, she doesn't want to part with her cardboard box bed just yet! We don’t usually give our cats cardboard boxes, but with Precious, we did this to help her feel more secure and protected with her kittens… and she’s made herself very comfortable in it!
Precious didn't have the easiest start to motherhood, but with the support of Cats Protection, she has been able to care for her kittens in a warm and safe environment and give them the best start they can possibly have. Unfortunately, we see many cats like Precious each year, and that's why we feel it’s so important for us to share her story, and to show how important those first eight precious weeks with mum are for a kitten.
There are many costs involved with looking after a mother and her kittens, including the cost of food, vaccinations, and neutering (when they are old enough), and as we saw in Precious's case, there are sometimes sudden and unplanned costs like surgery, antibiotics, and aftercare.
